Game background

Grand Theft Auto V

Overview

Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure game played from either a third-person or first-person perspective. Players complete missions—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress through the story. Outside of the missions, players may freely roam the open world.

The game is set in the fictional state of San Andreas, which is based on Southern California. The single-player story follows three criminals and their efforts to commit heists while under pressure from a government agency and powerful crime figures.

The open-world design lets players freely roam San Andreas' open countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles. The game features both single-player and online multiplayer modes, the latter called Grand Theft Auto Online.

GTA V has one of the most detailed and alive open worlds I've ever experienced. The three protagonist system keeps the story fresh, and the heists are incredibly fun to plan and execute.

The single-player story is fantastic, but Rockstar's focus on GTA Online has left story DLC behind. Still, the base game offers dozens of hours of entertainment with incredible attention to detail.

The level of satire and social commentary in GTA V is brilliant. It's not just a game about crime; it's a mirror held up to American culture. Plus, the driving mechanics and gunplay are top-notch.
